Paying at One in the Morning

Cash, card or crypto, settled at the door. The mechanics of money at night.

2026-06-05

Money is the least interesting part of a booking, and our entire payment design exists to keep it that way — especially at one in the morning, when nobody is at their best with arithmetic and the nearest cash machine is a cold five-minute walk you do not want to make in a hotel robe.

The structure first: payment happens on arrival, in the first few minutes, not at the end. This surprises some guests and is deliberate. The end of a session belongs to whatever state the session has produced — most often a guest three-quarters asleep — and no part of that should involve locating a wallet. Settled at the door, money exits the evening entirely. The therapist handles it in under a minute and the subject never returns.

Cash is the simplest, and we take it in any major currency. Euros, obviously, but a night's bookings regularly close in dollars, pounds, or francs — Amsterdam's hotel population carries the world's wallets, and we have never seen a reason to make that the guest's problem. Conversion is done fairly at the day's rate, counted without ceremony. Cash is also, for guests who think about such things, the oldest privacy tool ever invented: it appears on no statement and answers to no bank.

Cards work at 1am exactly as they work at 1pm. The therapist carries a reader; the tap takes seconds. The only honest caveat is the one we have always given: a card payment lives on your statement, and your statement is between you and your bank. Guests who prefer their bookkeeping silent choose cash, and that is the entire decision tree.

Crypto rounds out the list, and its share of the night grows a little every year. For some guests it is a privacy preference; for others it is simply the wallet they actually use. Either way the transfer is confirmed before the session begins, same as the other methods.

What about prices at night? Unchanged. The hour is €180 whether it starts at noon or at four in the morning — no surcharge, no premium, nothing to calculate. And tipping, the question guests are too polite to ask aloud: never required, always noticed when the work has earned it, and entirely at your discretion in any currency you happen to have.

That is the whole system. Decide what you want, have one of three payment methods ready, and spend zero further thought on it. At one in the morning, zero further thought is exactly the correct amount.
